South Asians, and the topic of sex are quite interesting.

I like how in this clip from Maryada, the song alludes to having a one night stand, but to get past the censors they had to disguise it with poetic language.

There’s many more like this.

Rajesh Khanna: Chupke se dil de dey. (Give me your heart quietly)

Mala Sinha: Ney tey. (If I don’t give)

Rajesh Khanna: Chor macha jayenga. (There will be an uproar)….

Mala Sinha: Aur main ho gaye badanaam yeh na soch tuu bach jayega. Chor macha jayenga (and if I do this, what do you think will happen to you. There will be an uproar)

I remember my mom once telling me how when she was young, that she hoped that whoever she married and fell in love with would always ride bikes, and then she could just sit on that metal rail seat in the back. And then she made this expression on her face, and I read it as: “wow, was I totally a dumb, and stupid romantic.” I wonder even now if my dad was ever capable of doing such a thing even in his prime. I could totally see him after riding for five seconds saying something along the lines of: “ayo…ayo…ende kala…okay, I can’t do this anymore, I’m in too much pain.”

And just last night, I happened to have stumbled on this one Malayalam song that my parents always used to listen to (it’s the video posted above). It’s called “Illam Manjin”, from the movie “Ninnishtam Ennishtam (I believe it translates into: Your love, My love).”

Towards the end of the song, the actor, Mohanalal, rides a bike, with his significant other, the actress, Priya, by his side. I wonder if scenes like that one in particular gave my mom such thoughts. What I also thought was cute was how the “Ninnishtam Ennishtam” was released in 1986; the year my parents got married.

Hopefully, my brother and I can save up enough money to buy a two seater bike, with a metal rail at the end so we can take our beloved mother for a stroll around the park, or somewhere else that’s nice. Chances are, she’d be in fear for her life considering how we ride, but I think it’ll make for great memories.
